If it weren't for my cousin Danny, I wouldn't have discovered this gem of a place.
You see, I have my boundaries. They are Fort Bonifacio and Makati. Anything north
of that takes too much effort.
Marufuku is overcrowded. The tables are too close together and people can get loud.
But it is also warm and homey and they use pretty Japanese umbrellas as lighting fixtures
Most importantly, the food makes me happy.
Not all dishes were 100% delicious though. Here are some that I will skip next time (so I have space for the rolls and kamameshi rice):
Agedashi Tofu
Kaki Fry - the breading on the Hiroshima oysters was too thick
Tuna Sashimi - who ordered this anyway???
Asparagus wrapped in thinly sliced beef - so dry
Enoki mushrooms wrapped in thinly sliced beef
Sukiyaki - only because many other restaurants do this better
Monica is on some kind of a diet and ordered a grilled mackerel for herself.
It was dry and sad and overcooked.
I wish she had these winning dishes:
Uni sushi - according to Danny, the best sea urchin he's ever had in Manila
Mackerel sashimi
Kaki Motoyaki - I could eat these miso-mayo oysters all night
Ebi Tempura - so plump and juicy
And my favorite of all, the Hotate Gyutan Salad. Yes, it's scallops and beef tongue and
it's SOOOOOOO GOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!
But Monica did not have any of these.
Therefore, the pissed-off, I-am-gonna-cry-now face. Everybody else was a happy camper. :P
Green tea, chocolate, black sesame and red bean ice cream party!
Thank you for the delicious dinner, Danny! Cheers to more!!! ;)
