Akira, The Art of Sushi and Teppanyaki ♥ ♥

DSC4468

I couldn't say no when my cousin Danny invited us to dinner at the new Akira in
Alphaland Makati Place. I was still suffering withdrawal symptoms from my recent
Tokyo trip and this would relieve some of the pain.

I heard the inspiration behind the restaurant design is autumn in Japan, with auburn and
gold-colored leaves blowing softly from the trees and making their way slowly to the ground.
I think Kenneth Cobonpue did a really good job.

The restroom is nice and spiffy, too

We sat at the teppanyaki table but also ordered sushi and sashimi

Ebi was overcooked. Was it even supposed to be cooked?

The rolls were pretty standard fare. What I enjoyed were these two:

Spicy Ahi Tuna Poke. I think I finished this all by myself.

Of course, UNI, my love. The sea urchin at Akira was especially sweet!

What excited me most was Akira's selection of premium Japanese beef.
They carry A3 and A4 wagyu, kobe, and… wait for it... Matsusaka beef!

DSC4511

We ordered the Japanese A4 Wagyu Teppanyaki Set which came with chicken, shrimps,
vegetables, and miso soup

Check out that marbling!

Our teppanyaki chef was such an entertainer! He asked if we wanted a performance and
started showing off his skills, accidentally dropping the eggs more than a few times. Lol.
It was actually fun watching him.

Usually, vegetables and rice would come last in a teppanyaki meal, but here at Akira
they served them first. (Why?!?)

Chicken and shrimps

The funny chef shaped the rice into a heart before distributing it
into our bowls

Fried rice

And the main event - Japanese A4 Wagyu. The beautifully charred pieces of meat
practically melted in my mouth! THIS is what you come to Akira for. I heard the beef
is flown in from Japan everyday, and even the salt they use is sourced from Japan.

Our dessert of fried bananas and three scoops of ice cream hit the spot

Thank you for dinner, Gilbert and Dan!

Akira gives out a pair of "chork" (chopsticks + fork) to every diner as parting gift.
The owners ordered these super cool souvenirs all the way from New Jersey!

DSC4489

There's also a drink-all-you-can promo going on for only P499 per person.
We took advantage, of course. :P

Wines available that night

This guy took advantage, too! BAD DANNY!!!!!!!! :D
