Seeing very positive reviews of this place online, Frances added The Salted Pig to our already jam-packed Hong Kong "Eatinerary."
Maybe we went on an off night. It was Friday. It was also the second to the last best meal of the trip.
As the name suggests, The Salted Pig's menu concentrates on pork. We ordered 2-3 servings of each dish.
It was an oinkfest. Pun intended.
Cute bread basket
Pumpkin Soup - but I did not taste no pumpkin
Burrata and Tomato Salad with Roasted Beets and Balsamic Dressing - simple but good
Grilled Chicken Romaine Caesar with Sourdough, Parmesan and Anchovies
The Salted Pig Starter Sampler
Half rack baby back ribs (more bones than meat), crispy pork cakes (utterly flavorless!!!),
pork cheek (this was tasty), crispy dry riblets (didn't even bother), and smokey pork belly
with pickles and sauces
Prawn Linguine with Mushroom and Tarragon Cream and Lemon Toasted Breadcrumbs -
sounded 1,000,000 times more exciting than it tasted
Pig Ear Shaped Pasta with Spicy Sweet Fennel Sausage and Parmesan - funky, pasty stuff
US Prime Hanger Steak with Coffee and Brown Sugar Rub, Chips, Mushroom and Tarragon Cream
Slow Cooked Pork Belly with Roasted Apple Puree and Local Greens with Chilies - this was
the most acceptable of all pork dishes. The meat was tender enough and the skin crunchy.
Whole Rack of Baby Back Ribs with Sticky BBQ Sauce, Slaw and Fries -
The fries had more meat in them than the ribs. This was practically bones and sauce!
Crispy Pork Knuckle with Sauerkraut and Creamy Mustard Sauce - much blander than I
expected, and the skin also not crispy enough. This came with our choice of two sides:
Poutine
Jalapeño Creamed Corn
70% of the dishes was underwhelming.
I ate more fries than meat.
This Crispy Smoked Chicken Wings was the best of the night.
We left without ordering dessert.
Methinks The Salted Pig is highly overrated.
Too bad because it really is a nice concept. And I like that there are pigs everywhere.
On the shelf
On the wall
On the napkin
On the chairs.
OINK.
