There is a no reservations policy at 22 Ships. We waited 30 minutes for a table on a Sunday night.
(We didn't mind. We had a round of drinks at Tony Bahama down the street.)
I like the industrial feel of 22 Ships. The chalkboard, black and white photos hanging on the wall...
Unfinished touches, exposed pipings, and this heavy duty lamp
It would be fun to sit at the bar and watch the Jason Atherton-trained chefs at work,
but we were a group of 8 and we liked to watch each other more :P
The menu is simple. We skipped the "Vegetables" part and picked from Para Picar (Nibbles),
Seafood, Meat, Desserts, and the Specials from the chalkboard.
Portions were tiny so we ordered multiple servings of each dish to avoid bloodbath.
Don't let the small plates fool you. They may be minuscule in size, but they were generous on flavors.
Each plate was a masterpiece.
Jamon, manchego and truffle toastie, quail eggs
Hamachi, watermelon, wasabi, puffed rice
Scallop ceviche, apple, walnut, yuzu
Beetroot cured salmon, cucumber, lemon
Smoked eel, leek, yogurt and cereliac
Seabass, chorizo, artichokes, clams
Beef tartare, egg yolk puree, pickled mushrooms, hazlenut
Squid and jamon paella
Baked bone marrow, gentleman's relish, onion jam
Spread everything on top of each other. Fat on carbs is oh so good!
Iberico pork and foie gras burger, avocado, cucumber pickles
Suckling pig, piquillo peppers, pink peppercorns
Roasted lamb, pearl barley, onions
Braised beef, garlic, roasted salsify
Basil ice cream, strawberry, citrus
Goat cheese ice cream, honeycomb, raspberry
Texturas de chocolate
You must absolutely order all my favorites - jamon manchego truffle toasties (do not share if possible), beef tartare, squid and jamon paella, suckling pig, braised beef, and the chocolate dessert!
