It wasn't our first time in Shanghai but still we did the touristy stuff.
In fact, we did it everyday. Every morning before lunch (and sometimes after) we went to probably the most tourist-infested place in Shanghai - Yuyuan Market and Shanghai Old Street.
We've been to Yuyuan Gardens many times before, took souvenir photos wearing traditional Chinese costumes and all, even ate at the tourist trap that is Lu Bo Lang. Read about it here.
This time we stayed outside at the shops buying overpriced knick knacks. I was traveling with The World's Top 2 Souvenir Whores.
Scenes around the area:
Chinese guardian lion
Gate no. 7
Shops, carts, and Starbucks Coffee
Chinese architecture
So many local and foreign tourists
When in Shanghai, you must have a Double Matcha Cheesecake Blizzard!
Shanghai Old Street
It's a whole street lined with souvenir shops
So wonderful that locals here still ride the bike
Roasting Long Jing (Dragon Well) tea leaves
Water for tea
Mini cheongsams and changshans
Giant White Rabbits!
Colorful kites
Mao and buddha heads
Masks
Chinese whistles
Errr… Pipes??? Or musical instrument?
Etc. etc. etc.
Old man buying a scarf for his love
Chinese chops
Name painting
Old posters
Little Red Book, playing cards, and hello there, RoboCop!
Wooden bowls and utensils
Chopsticks
Combs
Hats and medals
Tea mugs
Old books and comics
Chest handles
Door knockers
Shadow Play shop
Gods and warriors
Lovers
Despite being a commercial area, people actually still live here
And they like to hang things all over the place
Jackets, vests
Abacus
Birdcage
Work clothes
And pink underwear!
I wanted to buy everything in this antiques shop:
Old typewriters, radios, telephones
Books and scale
Paintings, pots, sewing machine
Record players, sewing machine, steering wheel
Vintage telly and clock
Antique Chinese chair
Except for this creepy doll that is definitely not for kids! Lol!
Instead, I bought this headpiece and played princess for a day :)
Shanghai Old Street is a nice place to walk around in
I know we'll be back again and again
