Lost Heaven would always pop up when I was researching for good places to eat in Shanghai.
So off we went to a Yunnan lunch on our second day in the city.
The place was nicely decorated, but honestly, it felt more like a spa than a restaurant to me.
Yes, I would like a foot scrub with my meal, thank you! :P
The food, as I expected the minute I walked in, was aimed more at the expats than the locals.
It was tasty, mind you, just not authentic enough.
You know the feeling when something is good but not quite there yet, like machang without hot sauce, peanut butter without nutella, pad thai without curry, cake without coffee… You get the drift.
Lost Heaven felt like that. It felt safe. And maybe just a little bit boring.
Burmese Milk Tea and Tamarind Juice in Palm Sugar
Yunan Eggplant and Tofu Salad
Yunan Taro Spring Rolls - nice twist to an otherwise ordinary fried roll. I love taro!
Burmese Lamb Samosa
Da Li Style Chicken with Chili and Green Onions - this was refreshing and not spicy at all
Tibetan Style Grilled Rack of Lamb - tender and tasty
Steamed Sea Bass with Dai Tribe Salt Black Bean
Yunan Truffle Steamed Egg
Ladies who overeat during lunch :P
