Shin Yeh is my favorite Taiwanese restaurant in the whole wide world. I tell you, if you haven’t been to Shin Yeh, you haven’t been to Taiwan.
The place is packed on Friday nights
(and also Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays… you get the point)
That’s my cousin Frances all excited and hungry
Whenever I eat here by myself, I always order these 6 dishes (and I demand you do the same, too):
1. 蔭鼓青蚵仔 Sautéed Fresh Oysters with Scallion and Garlic
So fresh, so plump and so tasty! I scoop big heaps of this onto my congee.
2. 蛋黃肉 Steamed Pork topped with Egg Yolk
So rich and flavorful it makes the most health-conscious oblivious to
all that yellow cholesterol.
3. 菜脯蛋 Pan Fried Egg with Preserved Turnip
Eggy and fluffy with bits of crunchy turnip. Yum.
4. 小魚花生 Fried Small Fish with Peanuts
I sprinkle this generously all over my congee to add exciting flavors and textures for that ultimate experience.
5. A菜 A Vegetables
Gotta balance my meals with delicious veggies.
6. 地瓜稀飯 Sweet Potato Congee
Move over, steamed rice. Sweet potato congee is the only way to go.
More potatoes, more satisfaction.
Because I am eating with a group of 6 tonight, we are able to order a few more dishes. Yey!
欣葉卤肉 Soya Boiled Lean Pork with Bamboo Shoots
蚵仔煎 Pan Fried Oysters with Scrambled Egg and Greens
滷大腸 Soy Boiled Pig’s Intestines with Preserved Vegetables
Everything is good, and the complimentary desserts are even better.
花生麻吉 Peanut Mochi
Served very warm so you must stop whatever it is you’re doing and pop these
soft and nutty babies into your mouth right away.
OR I WILL.
紅豆花生西米湯 Red Bean, Peanut, Sago Soup
I can finish another bowl of this and another bowl and another bowl…
Yes, THAT good.
