I tell you, Chiang Mai is all about elephants, ginormous spaces, mountains, and elaborate tributes to the King and Queen.
Here’s another one from the Royal Thai Air Force.
Me, Sam, Uncle Richard, Auntie Susan and our tour guide Xiao Fang
(Ooops, the view is blocking the view-view, hehe!)
While I organized a very small and simple celebration to commemorate my mom’s 60th birthday, the Royal Thai Air Force went all out and built the Napamaytanidol Chedi near the summit of Doi Inthanon, at the height of 7600 feet above sea level, to commemorate the 60th birthdays of the King and Queen. (Mom, please try not to compare!)
The gold-colored Phra Mahathat Nabha Metaneedol is built in 1987 to celebrate
King Bhumibol's 60th birthday. The color yellow/gold symbolizes the King.
For those of you wondering, NO, I did NOT climb the stairs!
Thank you, Royal Thai Air Force, for installing the world’s greatest invention!
But still, they make me climb a few more steps

Climb to the very top at your own risk
Just make sure this monk guy doesn’t catch you
That’s already Burma over there
Next, we go up to the purple-colored Phra Mahathat Nabhapol Bhumisiri
(by escalator again) which is built in 1992 for Queen Sirikit’s 60th birthday.
Purple is her favorite color. (Mine, too!)
Purple pictures of the Queen doing her daily activities
Ladies praying to Queen Sirikit
Pretty, fluffy clouds I wish I could eat
Lush gardens full of cold climate plants that bloom all year round
Heart patches! Happy Valentines Day, everyone! ♥
Didn’t I say Chiang Mai is all about elephants? This Mama Eli’s got a bad, broken trunk
Pretty flowers, but I don’t know their names (sorry!)
Purple is also my favorite color. Can I be a Queen now?
