It is 5:10 in the morning and there is clinking and clanking in the kitchen.
Today is Mom’s 60th birthday and noodles are in order.
First, boil some Japanese ramen
And then prepare the toppings:
Braised pig knuckles for good luck
(Chinese name sounding like Chinese lucky word… that sort of thing…)
Chasiu slices, shrimps, scallops and eggs
Mushrooms and little flowery things in secret soup stock
Chinese cabbage, green onions, crispy shallots, fresh garlic
Add drained noodles and pile on the toppings
On her very own birthday, at 5:10am, with sweat trickling down her neck,
Mom prepares noodles for each and every one of us.
And that is why to me she will always be The Greatest Mom in the World. ♥
