And what is a trip to Bangkok without the reasonably cheap but very good Thai massages and body scrubs?
Originally planning to go to the Avatar Spa at the Dream Bangkok, we later on change our minds when our very own receptionist at the hotel recommends this newly opened spa just a few minutes walk away. I make a mental note to nominate her as Employee of the Month.
Ooh la la! And how smart are we to come by earlier in the day to make an appointment.
The place is full when we arrive for our treatments at 4pm.
I love these light fixtures in the reception area
The scrub is awesome. My therapist knows exactly where I like it hard and rough,
and where I like it soft and gentle, as if we’ve been this intimate many times before.
I feel immaculately spic and span after.
Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the Thai massage. Although quite good and better than most Thai massages in Manila, I’ve had better experiences in those tiny and cramped massage centers lining the shopping malls and streets of Bangkok. Or maybe the masseuse just finds my pad-thai-and-curry-laden body too heavy to do much stretching on me.
The best massage I’ve had so far? In Wat Po, lying side by side with strangers (fully clothed, mind you), with no aircon on, having my body and limbs pulled and twisted while being roasted alive in the sweltering heat of Bangkok.
