During my alone time at the plush Abaca Boutique Resort, this is where I have long and romantic dinner dates with myself.
I just can’t say it enough, the breads in Abaca are truly excellent! I fight hard not to finish the whole basket but I fail. My nice and thoughtful waiter notices my empty basket and replaces it almost immediately. Burp!
Seafood Bisque – so good I practically inhaled the thing
Alaskan Black Cod in Caper Brown Butter, Creamed Spinach with Bacon – just a teeny-weeny bit overcooked, but still moist and tasty
Chocolate Pot de Crème – the menu says this is “not for the faint-hearted or the calorie conscious.” Oh baby, that I am not!
On another occasion…
Abaca freshly baked breads – so good they deserve their very own photo
Grilled Prawns with Avocado – prawns are fresh and succulent, and the avocado a great complement
Tomato Bisque – the first spoonful is delicious, but there is too much pepper that by the time I finish the soup, I taste only pepper and no more of the tomato
Beetroot, Blue Cheese, Sundried Tomato Salad – VERY, VERY GOOD!!!
Lamb Tabulleh on Crisp Pita – although this dish is fun to eat, it lacks that “ooomph.” Perhaps a mintier yogurt sauce or super garlic sauce and some pine nuts would do the trick
Braised Beef Short Rib – super tender and super beefy. The mushrooms on top complement the beef so perfectly. I am already too full at this point (blame the bread! blame the bread!) but it is just too grave a sin to waste such a beautiful thing.
Bouillabaisse – too full at this point to even taste anything, but I remember the bread being a bit too oily
Baked Apple Puff with Vanilla Ice Cream – but there is always room for dessert, especially if it comes in the form of something hot and cold, light and flaky, soft and crispy.
