Rockwell is my second home. I watch movies there, do my groceries there, shop there, eat there, get a haircut there, get my bibingka fix there, and sometimes I am just there for no reason at all. It is also the place where my friends and I usually meet up for dinner. I live down south and most of them live up north, so Rockwell is our “halfway.”
But I have already tried all the restaurants there is to try, including also the food kiosks, fast food chains, weekend Bakers Fair stalls, and even the deli section in Rustan’s Supermarket. Rockwell needs more food choices. So imagine my delight when Bistecca opens in Joya Tower. Finally, another dining room in my big mall-home!
Bistecca’s table napkin is fun!
Asparagus Soup – Campbell’s, is that you?
Spicy Caesar Salad – not really all that spicy. I still prefer Caesar salad done the traditional way. Sorry, not a fan.
Tropical Mandarin Salad – Mesclun greens with Mandarin oranges, roasted pine nuts, dried fruits and blue cheese. A much better salad choice than the Caesar.
Special of the Day: Pan Seared Foie Gras with eggplant, apples and balsamic vinegar. Our waiter recommends this when we mention we want the regular add-on foie gras. And he is right, this is quite good.
The Bistecca alla Fiorentina – “Steak the way it is done in Florence.” Approximately 1.4 kilos of USDA Choice Porterhouse grilled with fresh herbs.
The steak comes out a little bit too rare than the medium rare we ask for. Nonetheless, hooray to Bistecca for being one of the very few Manila restaurants that do not overcook their steak. However, the meat itself lacks flavor, and by the time our waiter remembers to bring the seasoned salts to our table, 3/4 of the steak is already in our stomachs. Tsk.
Beef Tenderloin – Jeff says the 350g of USDA Filet Mignon is just ok
Shoestring Truffle French Fries – this is SOOO GOOD I like it even more than the steaks. A reason to come back to Bistecca again and again.
Cheese Spatzle – onions, cheese, noodles and more cheese… Really, can it get any better than this? Yum!
Rosemary and Garlic Mashed Potatoes – I am a person who abhors exercise. But for this, I am willing. I would eat truckloads and truckloads of this even if it means never getting off the treadmill for the rest of my life.
Cream Corn Pudding – top with crushed ice and ta-da! You have mais con yelo! This is too sweet it should be moved to the dessert menu.
Strawberry Sabayon – the only dessert available and I tell you, it is the only one you’d want to have. I am so thankful I am the only one with a sweet tooth tonight because this dessert is something I do not want to share.
Not even with cousins and good friends.
