It’s December 24, 2009. 11:30pm. I can’t feel anything.
I can’t feel Christmas.
Uh-oh.
This is an emergency.
Rx: Go to Manila Pen. Eat.
The place is packed and the service is slow. No cake trolley, no King Oscar, no Opera. Our orders take forever to arrive. But it’s okay. It’s Christmas. No one wants to be The Grinch.
But it’s hard! These churros test my patience. You will almost never hear me complain about sweetness, but these are just sickeningly so. And soggy. Please, Grinch, please do not come out.
Thank God for friends who order my favorite childhood ice cream. Really, what can’t this little cup of nutty, marshmallowy, chocolaty goodness do? It calms. It heals. It keeps The Grinch happy and saves the world.
I love…
The view from the mezzanine level
The lighting effect on the plants
The centerpiece at the reception desk
And the halo-halo on the table next to us!
Isn’t is amazing how festive atmosphere and food can cure just about anything?
Merry Christmas, Everyone!!!
